2023 Season

We look forward to welcoming you at the Playhouse.

Our 2023 season is your passport to an around-the-world tour of all of the emotions, whether that be by steamship, train, chariot, or 707.  You’ll find love, healing, and family with The Secret Garden, our winter musical.  Envy, jealousy, lust, and betrayal with Les Liasons Dangereuse (Dangerous Liaisons).  And come May, you’ll be laughing all the way through the summer starting with the high-flying comedy of Boeing Boeing, followed by the non-stop laughfest of A Funny Thing…Forum.  And of course we close out the season with the joy and hope of our annual tradition of A Christmas Carol.  So join us and share in the joy, laughter, tears, and hope of our exciting 2023 season.

The Secret Garden – Feb 23 – March 19

This enchanting classic of children’s literature is reimagined in brilliant musical style by composer Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of ‘Night Mother. Orphaned in India, 11-year-old Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his disabled son Colin. The estate’s many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the “Dreamers,” spirits from Mary’s past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing The Secret Garden‘s compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.

A tale of seduction set in France among aristocrats before the revolution, this is a classic drama for exploring decadent sexuality, morals, and manipulation played as the ultimate game, with tragic results. The Royal Shakespeare Company’s stunning production met with acclaim in Stratford, London and on Broadway. 


Boeing Boeing – May 18 – 28

This 1960’s French farce adapted for the English-speaking stage features self-styled Parisian lothario Bernard, who has Italian, German, and American fiancées, each a beautiful airline hostess with frequent “layovers.” He keeps “one up, one down, and one pending” until unexpected schedule changes bring all three to Paris, and Bernard’s apartment, at the same time.


A Funny Thing Happened … Forum – June 22 – July 16

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a nonstop laughfest in which Pseudolus, a crafty slave, struggles to win the hand of a beautiful, but slow-witted, courtesan named Philia for his young master, Hero, in exchange for freedom. The plot twists and turns with cases of mistaken identity, slamming doors and a showgirl or two.


Fun Home – Aug 10 – Aug 27

When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires. Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.


Murder On The Orient Express – Sept 21 – Oct 8
Audition Dates July 23 & 24, 2023

Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed eight times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated and with a killer in their midst, the passengers rely on detective Hercule Poirot to identify the murderer – in case he or she decides to strike again.


What The Constitution Means To Me – Oct 26 – Nov 5

Playwright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious, hopeful and achingly human new play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives.


A Christmas Carol – Nov 28 – Dec 17

Join Ebenezer Scroge, Tiny Tim and three lively ghosts on a dark, snowy journey that leads to a bright new day of joy, hope and renewal. Banish your bah humbugs, and celebrate the holiday season with M&D’s favorite family tradition.

In Gina Gionfriddo’s BECKY SHAW, a newlywed couple fixes up two romantically challenged friends: wife’s best friend, meet husband’s sexy and strange new co-worker.
